IS IT TONE DEAF TO POST DURING A TIME LIKE THIS?

To say that we are living in a surreal time is an understatement. Our new normal looks very different than what it did one month ago. Lives have been lost. Routines have been upended and all we can do is follow guidelines and ride the waves so that we can stay safe and keep others safe (and alive) in the process. Sounds like a small task; but in reality, it is probably the most monumental action you will take during this crisis period.

Which leads me to believe that talking or sharing about anything besides what we are currently living feels rather insignificant. I\’ve gone back and forth about what to post, if it\’s okay to post it, and making sure I don\’t come across as tone deaf. What we\’re wearing is not very important in the grand scheme of things currently, but how do you do it in a way that doesn\’t seem out of touch?

Believe it or not, I used my friends as a sounding board. As always, your friends (at least mine) will be 10000% honest and they helped me bounce off some ideas of what would work and what could come off as insensitive. It comes down to authenticity, being yourself, and perspective on what\’s going on around you.

The way I see it, it\’s an escape. Many of us are glued to our screens watching news, reading articles, going on Web MD, and just going down a black hole of anxiety and depression while we absorb all this information on Covid-19. While it is important to stay informed, it\’s also important to disconnect from time to time from all the negativity because it can take a huge toll on our mental health. We need a break. We need some fluff. We need to connect with other humans virtually or do things we enjoy like reading a book, doing a workout, watching our favorite show, baking, fashion magazines, zoom happy hours. Whatever it is, make it something that sprinkles a little joy in your life.

When it comes to posting, I\’m mixing it up. I\’ve been sharing photos and stories of our new normal and things we are doing as a family. I\’ve also been posting photos from old shoots I did before the quarantine and focusing more on the message rather than the photos. Case in point!

There you have it, folks. I hope that these posts offer a little bit of an escape whenever you need to disconnect and decompress. I\’m definitely not saving the world, but at least I can provide some light-hearted content to change up the mood.

Stay safe, sane, and sanitized!
