DECODING DENIM

For many years, I thought that a good pair of jeans were only \’good\’ if they cost over $100. Boy, was I wrong and broke. That\’s not to say there are not some quality denim brands out there with fantastic jeans and a hefty price tag. If you love them and are loyal to a brand because they never let you down and you can afford it, then go for it! What I learned in my early 30\’s through now, is that you don\’t have to break the bank to find a great pair of jeans. I also learned that you don\’t have to follow every jean trend just because its popular. It may work for you and it may not. You have to find a style and a fit that compliments your body type, height, shape, etc. I learned that too. I learned that I love a high-waisted fit. I love skinny jeans. Period. Yes, will I occasionally venture into wide leg territory, but my go-to is a hi-waisted skinny or a mom jean skinny.

There was a time when it was all Seven For All Mankind jeans for me. Throwing down $150+ for a pair of jeans was a no brainer. Then I realized that they stretched too much for my taste and I was left with a bunch of expensive jeans that I couldn\’t wear. Then a pair of jeans from Uniqlo changed all that for me. I walked in to the store downtown, and decided to try on a pair of their skinny jeans. They were $50 and from that day forward I never bought a pair of jeans that cost me more than $50. I loved them so much I bought the same style in two washes. I went from the girl with 12 pairs of jeans in her closet, to a max of 3-4 jeans. To this day, I have about six jeans in different washes and fit but all in all, they are all pretty much high-waisted, mom cut, skinny.

Ok, so they are not skinny, but they are high-waisted, and that\’s more important to me. These are cut at the ankles which I love because I like how they look with flats and booties. Personally, I would wear this kind of cut with a heel, because otherwise, they may come off a little dumpy looking if you don\’t. Next up, styling these babies!

Now that you\’ve seen how I\’ve decoded my denim and styled these affordable pair from Target, are you more inclined to find cheaper jeans to add to your wardrobe? I want to see how you style yours! Tag me.
